QUEER INSTANCES IN CARMILLA

As can be observed in the above graph, instances of queer behavior in Carmilla spiked through the publishing of the second and third serial. These elements in the text were used to further heighten Carmilla's oddities and the perverse nature in which she behaved. They were used as tools of suspense and shock more than of actual character development. The publishment of the fourth serial brought the downfall of such instances as Carmilla is revealed to be evil. Her queer actions are only allowed to be explored as a side effect of the supernatural. Her vampirism allows for the audience to indulge in these tropes and actions without reconciling their own negative opinion of them.
